Headlining Metalfest 2004
January 2004 | By Elliott Hurst, Co-Owner of Supernova Entertainment Inc.
Betrayer, the up and comers with the old school sound, who have torn off the roofs of such venues as the Molson Amphitheatre (Toronto, Cap: 16,000), Centennial Park (Sarnia, Cap: 10,000), Playdium Amphitheatre (Mississauga, Cap: 5,000), Phoenix Concert Theatre (Toronto, Cap: 1,500) and the Opera House (Toronto, Cap: 850), are headlining Supernova’s Metalfest 2004 at the Rockit.

Even though the Windsor natives have performed with such legendary artists as Iron Maiden, Ronnie James Dio and Motorhead, Betrayer has remained adamant over keeping their fan base by sticking to their guns rather than becoming what may be popular.

“I personally think heavy metal fans are the greatest music lovers I’ve ever met,” says 22-year-old bassist Norm Michaud. “Our fans are responsible for all of the band’s success. They all really amaze me and I can’t thank them enough.”

Their album, Rusted Icons, has drawn impressive reviews:

“Rusted Icons, the debut album from Canadian metal band Betrayer, features original songs with a classic metal sound imbued with fresh twists and turns. Some metal bands are cookie cutter: if you hear one song, you've basically heard everything they do. Not so with Rusted Icons!” (Janet Boyer, BellaOnline's Heavy Metal, November 2003).

“Rusted Icons, is an amazingly great debut album from these Canadians and shows immense spirit and huge potential while featuring a fantastic mixture of older TOURNIQUET, older MEGADETH and even some old MÖTLEY CRÜE.” (Cheryl from The Metal Gospel)

“Another great thing about Betrayer is that they aren't one of those band's with the one good song, every single song on this record will rip you a new one and they are also one of the few bands that play thrash metal the way it was played at it's apex, no death metal for Betrayer. Personally, I loved Descendants of Death, Wretched Ways, Tribulation - what am I saying? I loved the whole record! As far as the lyrics go, they are amazing, they're not one of those bands with the "Fuck the world", "Lets kill some fetuses", "Satan is god" attitudes, they're simply honest lyrics about stuff they feel they must write about.”” (Cesar Rosales, Metal Mayhem)

The line up is nearly full for Metalfest 2004, so if you want to get in for one of those last few precious spots on Friday February 20th, email sarah@supernova.com. This one’s going to be LOUD!!!
