What is the main power-core that drives the band?
Shawn Bastien: It's our fans, they're so great to us that even when things seem so down and hopeless there are great fans giving us that power-core deep down that drives us to bring on shows with such passion and such art. It's the people that help put us on that stage and that must always be acknowledged.
Are there future plans about recording New album? If so, tell us about the Plans...
Shawn Bastien: Right now we're working on a song to record for a music video. I believe soon after the recording of this song we shall re-enter the studio for a future album. Right now things are getting in order for the video... It's a power metal song but the song title is still unknown.
What kind of emotions can the listeneres feel in your music? Where are they coming from?
Shawn Bastien: I've been told by many people that our music has been a great insperation to them. I think Betrayer's music is filled with passion because we care that much, in the end that gives back to those people that long for our music. It drives you wherever your emotions desire, I believe our music is opened to that aspect.
What is the big messege in your latest album?
Shawn Bastien: To go against the grain, to go against trend. We seem to be sparking the airwaves with our music, dated some feel but in reality music is music as gold is gold... even if it's just a piece of gold it's still gold. Our message is clear and filled with music which people want to hear. I believe the next album will really bring out the full truth of Betrayer, the next chapter.
What do think about the world wide metal scene? There are some veray developments in the whole metal consepts, for example-more electronic touch, more melodic riffs even in the brutaliest bands.
Shawn Bastien: Something changes in the metal music creation. Over the years i've been listening to North America's sound that's all you could hear until you'd enter a music store and do deep research on Europe and Asia, heck even South America. It seems North America has gone Dance and Rock, Punk as of late... Metal is just a memory here but over seas it lives. I know this will cause a new step in the music era when World Metal slam into North America (like the beatles back in the 60s they came out of nowhere) It was that British Invasion that started a whole new scene in North America.
Do you think that the World wide new atmosphere can influence your Music, and if so, how?
Shawn Bastien: If it's related to the music, YES. I have heard bands like Eduy and Nightwish that have brought a whole atmosphere of Metalheads together. Iron Maiden has created such an assult towards the whole new "METAL IS BACK AGAIN!" theory. It's these bands and many, many, many more bands like these bands that influence us with hope and with an open mind.
How long have you been running? And where do you see yourself in 10 years as a band? Any planes for the future?
Shawn Bastien: As a musician i've been dated for 7 years but as Betrayer we've been going for 5 years. I see a lot of hope in our future, a lot of drive. It's all about how you see things. If you give up now then your future is today, if you keep going and fly through like a bullet then your future is wide. I see us with more music and with more fans, it's important to give the art of music back to the people that want it so bad!
Who influenced your band in the sound / music / lyrics aspect? Famous Band or person?
Shawn Bastien: I can't truely speak for the whole band but I believe for myself it was Nick Menza and Nicko McBrain. These musicians had a great influence on my drumming and my thought process while being in Betrayer all these years. As of late it has become Yngwie Malmsteen that has given Betrayer a lot of influences in sound, lyrics and feel.
Do you think the possibility of you coming to israel for a show?
Shawn Bastien: It could happen, as of right now anything could happen. We opened for Iron Maiden, Ronnie James Dio and Motorhead over the summer (our biggest event) .... If something as huge as playing with 16,000 people can happen then Israel can join in too. There are people we must get to out there so we may come together with music and our passions. Betrayer must visit Israel.
What do you think about the israeli/arab situation?
Shawn Bastien: In an overall I wish everyone could get along, I wish everyone could see what is right instead of seeing what they rather see. I remember in 2001 when the U.S. was hit with terrorism and the only way to fight back was war, war and more war. It's sad to see things fall apart like that and for musicians it only makes it harder for them to pass through boarders and feel safe. It's a matter of coming together and stopping one main thing -KILLING EACH OTHER. We were not meant to kill each other but to love each other the same.
In a finel word , What is your messege to our readers and listeners in israel?
Shawn Bastien: A Statement from the band. Keep your hopes high and never give up on any dream. I know that Betrayer writes music for the world and in that we think about the world. It's important to have a unity where people can come together and I know it's people like YOU who love music so and it's the people like us who must devote every chord, every beat to YOU, the fans. As Betrayer fights against trend, I know soon enough everything will just fit in its rightful place.
